Spring 7v7 Championship Recap

Weekly Recap – Week 1

Written by: Anonymous Contributor

As the spring sun breaks through the clouds and cleats dig into turf across Calgary, the 2025 Spring 7v7 Championship Series is officially underway—and if Week 1 is any indication, we’re in for a season packed with highlight-reel plays, breakout performances, and intense competition at every age level.

High School Division: Red Raiders Strike First

The Red Raiders out of Airdrie stormed out of the gates with a flawless 3-0 record to start their campaign, sending a clear message to the rest of the league: they’re here to dominate.

Quarterback Marshall Diggens was dropping dimes all weekend, developing instant chemistry with Tyler Frisch from George Mac. Frisch was practically unstoppable, hauling in six touchdowns across three games and earning Offensive Player of the Week honors.

On both sides of the ball, Smith Fradette delivered a balanced performance, tallying seven catches for 88 yards while holding down duties at defensive back. Meanwhile, safety Caleb Bourassa roamed the back end with precision and instincts, earning the nod for Defensive Player of the Week.

South Calgary’s Bama squad split the weekend 1-1, showing flashes of potential but also areas to tighten up. The Ducks, still searching for their rhythm, ended Week 1 at 0-3 but are a young team with room to grow.

15U Division: Schmidt Shines, Trojans Make Noise

The energy was electric in the 15U division, with Weston Schmidt from Jr. Bama making plays all over the field. Whether at quarterback, wide receiver, or out of the backfield, Schmidt’s versatility was on full display, landing him Offensive Player of the Week.

The SW Trojans’ Nathan Macintosh (WR, Ernest Manning) came through with clutch receptions and multiple touchdowns, helping put the Trojans in serious contention for a title run this spring.

Sam Armstrong, the Wildcats’ starting QB, shook off the rust after missing Week 1 and still managed to toss three touchdowns in a solid return. The Wolverines, while struggling early, are looking for a bounce-back performance next week with key additions expected to bolster their lineup at Challenger Park.

Defensive Player of the Week in the 15U bracket goes to Justus Miller of the Wolverines, who was a lone bright spot for the team with lockdown coverage and a physical presence.

12U Division: Buckeyes and Hawkeyes Explode

The SW Hawkeyes wasted no time igniting the scoreboard. Quarterback Josh Macintosh, fresh off his Battle of the Roses tournament win, picked up right where he left off—delivering crisp passes and finding Jackson Allen for a series of touchdowns.

But it was the NW Buckeyes who made the biggest statement. QB Jaxon Boys put on a clinic with deep shots and timing throws, while Ethan Manortey was a one-man wrecking crew on defense with multiple pass deflections and an interception, earning Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The SE Blue Raiders had a rocky start, giving up big plays defensively and struggling with dropped passes. But not all was lost—Pierce Scott Choo-Yin managed to find his reliable target, “Baby Gronk” Owen Olver, whose soft hands on third down provided much-needed stability.

And then there’s Cub Scheirman. Five touchdowns, acrobatic grabs, and an undeniable presence—Scheirman was everywhere. He takes home Offensive Player of the Week and continues to build his case as the most electrifying player in 12U this spring.

10U Division: Jr. Blue Raiders Make Early Noise

In the youngest division, Eli Stone etched his name into the spotlight with a game-changing interception against the 10U Hawkeyes, securing Defensive Player of the Week honors. On offense, Beckett Cool lived up to his name with a smooth and confident showing, grabbing the Offensive Player of the Week for the Jr. Blue Raiders.
