Battle for the Roses Edition
A Mother’s Day Weekend Filled with Champions, Heart, and Big-Time Plays
🌹 BATTLE FOR THE ROSES 🌹
Four Teams Crowned Rose Bowl Champions on Mother’s Day Weekend
There’s something special about football on Mother’s Day weekend.
The energy feels different. Every catch, every touchdown, every defensive stop carries a little extra meaning when players are competing not just for a championship—but for the chance to bring home a rose for Mom.
This year’s Battle for the Roses delivered everything fans could ask for: explosive offenses, clutch defensive stands, highlight-reel catches, and unforgettable championship moments. From the youngest athletes in the 10U division to the seasoned stars in the High School bracket, competitors left it all on the field in one of the most exciting tournaments of the spring season.
Before diving into the action, we want to congratulate our 2026 Rose Bowl Champions:
🏆 10U Rose Bowl Champions — BTP Elite Blue
🏆 12U Rose Bowl Champions — BTP Elite 12U
🏆 15U Rose Bowl Champions — GRE Calgary
🏆 High School Rose Bowl Champions — Red Raiders (Airdrie)
These teams earned their roses through grit, determination, teamwork, and championship-level performances all weekend long.
10U DIVISION
Young Guns Put On a Show
If the future of football in Alberta is in the hands of the 10U division, the future looks incredibly bright.
The spotlight immediately turned toward a quarterback duel between Ronan Marcellus and Aidan Amery, who both lit up defenses throughout Saturday with multiple touchdown passes and fearless playmaking.
Marcellus continuously connected with his go-to target Madden Meany, also known around the field as “Calvin Johnson.” Meany lived up to the nickname with explosive plays, huge catches, and touchdowns that electrified the crowd every time the ball came his way.
Not to be outdone, Aidan Amery showcased his own elite chemistry with Daniel Macintosh, who stepped up in the biggest moments of the Rose Bowl Championship game. Macintosh delivered clutch catches under pressure and proved to be one of the weekend’s most reliable playmakers.
The defensive side of the ball featured standout performances as well. Mason Schiffke made his presence felt all over the field, while Amery added to his incredible weekend with a huge interception that shifted momentum.
One of the biggest crowd eruptions came when Jakub Satorelli displayed incredible athleticism by hauling in a spectacular touchdown catch in the back corner of the end zone.
More than anything, these young athletes showcased tremendous competitive spirit, sportsmanship, and heart throughout the tournament.
12U DIVISION
BTP Elite Finds Their Rhythm
The road to the Rose Bowl title wasn’t easy for BTP Elite 12U.
Rotating quarterbacks early in the tournament slowed the offensive rhythm at times, but one thing never disappeared—big-play ability.
Leading the charge was Alex Pla, who consistently delivered in the biggest moments. Pla made several jaw-dropping catches in double coverage and became the reliable target BTP needed whenever momentum began to shift.
Looking for stability late in the tournament, BTP turned to Hudson Schulz at quarterback—and everything changed.
Schulz stepped in and calmly settled the offense, orchestrating drives with confidence and precision while finding the end zone three times to help secure the Rose Bowl Championship victory over a tough GRE Calgary squad.
The resilience and composure shown by BTP Elite 12U proved why championship teams are built not just on talent, but on trust and leadership.
15U DIVISION
A Weekend of Fireworks
The 15U division wasted absolutely no time bringing intensity.
The opening matchup between BTP Elite 14U and Bama, the powerhouse squad from the south, immediately turned into a shootout.
One of the plays of the tournament came when quarterback Josh Macintosh launched a perfectly placed backside deep post to Pierce Scott Choo-Yin. The football floated through the air like a work of art before dropping perfectly into stride for a touchdown that had the sidelines erupting.
After suffering a tough loss to Bama earlier this season during the Battle in the Rockies, BTP Elite answered back with determination and grit, eventually securing a huge statement win.
Several players stood out throughout the matchup:
Kareem Metawally — explosive offensive playmaker
Flynn Bell — reliable target and game-changer
Giovanni Lee — lockdown cornerback
At this point, Giovanni Lee may officially need a nickname.
“G’s Island” has a nice ring to it.
In the championship game, BTP Elite 14U squared off against a powerful GRE Calgary 15U squad in a battle that featured non-stop scoring and momentum swings. Both teams matched each other play for play before GRE Calgary pulled away late following a massive defensive stop with just over three minutes remaining.
That stop ultimately sealed the Rose Bowl Championship for GRE Calgary after one of the most entertaining games of the weekend.
HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION
Red Raiders Make It Three Straight
The High School division brought championship intensity from the opening whistle.
The Falcons opened strong against the Red Raiders from Airdrie, securing a victory in Game 1. Momentum continued into Game 2 as the Falcons once again controlled the action against GRE Calgary HS, punching their ticket to the Rose Bowl Championship game.
But waiting for them was a determined Red Raiders squad.
The semifinal matchup between GRE Calgary and the Red Raiders delivered one of the most competitive games of the weekend. Quarterback Marshall Diggens connected with Tyler Frisch in the back corner of the end zone for the game’s opening major, setting the tone early.
However, the Red Raiders defense answered with multiple clutch stops throughout the contest, eventually securing the win and advancing to the championship game against the Falcons.
The final started with fireworks.
The Falcons immediately energized the crowd when they found Flynn Bell streaking down the middle for a huge touchdown catch. But after that early strike, momentum slowly shifted.
The Red Raiders defense tightened up, highlighted by a massive interception from Kingsen Kelly that completely changed the flow of the game. Offensively, Yusif Idris delivered several big plays that helped push Airdrie ahead for good.
When the final whistle blew, the Red Raiders captured their third straight Rose Bowl Championship, cementing themselves as one of the premier programs in the series.
